about the event

Plant a Djembe is a community workshop facilitated by Chun Wai, a movement artist, percussionist, street performer (WaaiwaiiDrum), and arts educator. The session reflects his passion for West African traditional percussion, focusing on the djembe, a hand drum known for its deep and resonant sound.

Though simple in structure, the djembe offers a wide rhythmic vocabulary through different hand techniques. As participants play, each beat builds into a flow that naturally brings the body into rhythm and movement.

The workshop is designed to guide participants step by step, beginning with the basics. It is open to anyone aged 15 and above, and no prior musical experience is required
